On April 27, 2013, in recognition of his athletic accomplishments, Jim Brown cut the ceremonial ribbon to a reconstructed artificial turf field commissioned in his name. Brown, a 1953 graduate of Manhasset High School, is widely considered among the greatest athletes of the National Football League, logging nine record-breaking seasons with the Cleveland Browns. At Manhasset, he earned 13 varsity letters in football, lacrosse, basketball, baseball, and track, averaging 14.9 yards per carry his senior year. It is fitting, then, that an athletic complex be laid in honor of one of the most talented athletes to grace the fields of Long Island.
