This African Methodist Church was organized in 1820, and finally built in 1833 from land purchased by Reverend Anthony Treadwell. This area was the epicenter of the area called success. It was formerly known as the “Colored People’s Meeting House.” The cemetery around it holds former slaves, freed women and men, and Mattinecock Indians.
