St. Mary’s Roman Catholic Church

In 1853, John J. McMahon wrote to the See of New York Bishop John Hughes requesting creation a mission church to be established in Manhasset to accommodate the German and Irish Catholics that lived in the area.  Rev. McMahon would not have the opportunity to establish the Church, however, Father O’Beirne from the St. Michael’s Church of Flushing, along with Tom Fay, dismantled the Church in Flushing and brought it to Manhasset. Bishop Loughlin received a deed for land of the East Side of Plandome Road in 1857 to build the Church
